Background Info

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Drive Basketball was started in 2004 by Pasha Bains and Chad Clifford.  Both Pasha and Chad have been fixtures on the B.C. basketball scene for many years.  Both are

former B.C. AAA MVP's having led their respected High Schools to Provincial Championships and attended Division I University's on full basketball scholarships. Not until 2003-2004 at Simon Fraser did the two become teammates where they again teamed at UBC during the Thunderbirds perfect regular season run in 2006.

As a parallel to basketball, the two have been able to use their University degree programs in conjuction with Drive and their future careers in coaching.  Pasha has an undergraduate degree from Simon Fraser in English/Psychology and is currently finishing an M.A. Degree and subsequent Ph.D in Sport Psychology/Coaching Science. His research coincides with his interests in teaching, Coaching and Counseling young athletes.

Chad has also been able to use his interests in Coaching and basketball in his program in Human Kinetics at UBC.  He is currently completing a B.A. with coursework in Sports Psychology, Sport Management and Anatomy and Physical development.

During their University careers both Pasha and Chad developed a passion for teaching and mentoring young players in the game.  The two ran parallel basketball programs in Richmond and White Rock while completing their Undergraduate degrees.

In 2004, the two decided to combine their programs in Drive Basketball - a program aimed to develop athletes in more than just basketball. Since their first camp in September of 2004, which had 60 members attending, Drive has now expanded exponentially with over 1200 participants coming through the program. Both Pasha and Chad agree that basketball for them was a vehicle for 'life transformation,' they were able to establish character traits such as hard work, commitment and discipline which allowed them to suceed in areas that extended far beyond the court.  The two have recieved full-scholarships all the while through University, travelled the world, played in Major Division I basketball, played Canadian University basketball and represented Canada in competitions abroad.  Both of them acknowledge that a free education and the chance to meet different friends and teammates would not be possible without basketball.

The program continues to grow and operate with the mission of developing complete players and people.  Lectures on nutrition, goal-setting, University placement and "Drive Player booklets" featuring lifeskills tools aid in developing complete 'Drive Players'.

Their objective is to enhance the quality of basketball in the area while providing youth an opportunity to receive high level coaching.  This highly recommended program (testimonials) is attracting the top talent from around the lower mainland.  In order to develop the program further, Drive is planning to implement more camps and clinics into other regions of the province.  The coaches are extremely pleased with the success of the program and are enthusiastic about the future of DRIVE Basketball. These coaches are further motivated by the continued development of athletes who have come through their system and have carried what they have learned into their own schools and programs.  The expansion of this program will not only see the betterment of many more young and aspiring athletes, but will also help improve the quality of basketball in British Columbia for the future.

Drive provides multiple opportunities for players

of all skills and ages. From Drive instructional

What they're saying about Drive Programs

Mark Scott: Father of Ethan Scott - Gr. 3 Collingwood

______________________________________________________________________________________

"Ethan has attended Drive Holiday and Spring camps and I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the instruction and the sincere interest in the kids.  It also doesn’t hurt that they are among the premier University players in the country.

The environment they have created for the kids is extremely positive and I would strongly recommend this program to any parents who are interested in having their children participate in a fun, competitive and challenging atmosphere."

Scott is a Jr.Drive Standout

and former Hoops & Beyond

Most Outstanding Player (2006)

Elle Kerfoot: Under 15 & 17 Provincial team member, Gr. 10 Elgin Park.

Drive was awesome. I enjoyed coming every Saturday and Sunday and just playing, it was awesome to be coached by these guys.  My game improved a lot. I didn't only improve skill wise but it made me closer to the game.  I just want to be playing all the time now, I always have the ball in my hand now. It just made me think about how important basketball really is."

Kerfoot is one of many Drive Campers to play for B.C.

Also, a Hoops & Beyond Award

Greg Chambers: Father of Stephanie Chambers - Gr. 7 Emily Carr Elementary

_____________________________________________________________________________________

"I was VERY impressed with Drive!!! Having been to other camps, I expected the same routine of monotonous drills and the occasional scrimmage. What my daughter received however was totally different.

The coaches were experienced, knowledgeable, organized and passionate.  Each coach knew every player personally and their level of skills. Drive focused on my daughter as a COMPLETE player by working on her athletic conditioning, ball handling, offensive and defensive skills. I'd recommend Drive to any parent who wants a totally fun, positive and supportive camp experience for their
child."

Chambers is a Jr.Drive Standout

along with recieving a Hoops & Beyond

   Scholarship award ($400) in 2006

Lucian Sauciac: 17, Centennial - (TRU: DRIVE University Fall '05 MVP)

______________________________________________________________________________________

"I thought Drive without a doubt was the best camp I have gone to. During the 5 weeks, I made huge progressions in my game and all the coaches did a phenomenal job of teaching and encouraging the players.

The attitude and atmosphere at the camp was always so positive and it made it an awesome basketball environment to learn from some of Canada's bests. Isaac did an unbelievable job with the dynamic warm up and I think every player there got better."

Sauciac is one of the 3 Drive

                                                                            University MVPs to recieve an

                                                                               athletic scholarship to University

K.Bradshaw and M.Rohla: James and Thomas Bradshaw (Gr.7,9)

_____________________________________________________________________________________

"Our boys have been fortunate to be a part of the Drive movement for 2 years now. They have benefitted from 3 Drive Universities and summer and spring week-long camps. Drive has turned them into true athletes thanks to the dynamic warm-up and Coach Isaac's core training & nutritional education.

They have had the pleasure of experiencing a variety of enthusiastic, excellent coaches each with their own strengths, expertise & love of the game. Coaches Chad & Pasha have both made the extra effort to "get inside their heads" and have used positive motivation to push them to be better, more confident players. The player evaluations have been accurate, inspiring the boys to work hard on parts of their games that need work. Most importantly, the mentorship Drive coaches provide has been invaluable to our sons by inspiring them to be better on the court and in the classroom."
