ASSISTANT COACH: GIL CHEUNG
Gil Cheung is currently the head coach of Southridge High School in White Rock. Gil played his University Basketball at Brandon University, where he was the Point Guard and captain of the Bobcats and led them to four conference titles and four trips to the National Championships.
Gil is the definition of a winner. He was the backcourt mate of DRIVE Coach Pasha Bains at Richmond High where he helped lead the Colts to their last "AAA" Championship. He was also a 1st team All-Star and Finals Game MVP in 1998. In addition Gil was a three-time Captain of our B.C. Provincial Team for U-16, U-17 and 19, leading Team B.C. to 2 National Championship and 1 Silver. Gil has a great understanding of the game and is truely a coach on the floor. He has a sense of where players should be and as a player always knew how to lead any team, control the tempo of the game, as well as understand any mismatches he might see.
These skills and determination have continued along with him into the coaching ranks. After his playing career at Brandon, he caught on as an Asst. Coach at his alma-mater, leading the Bobcats to yet another trip to the National Championships. He has a tireless work ethic and can often be found at the gym working on developing the skills of many High School as well as University players. His Passion to teach and to motivate players is contagious. His enthusiasm and knowledge is quickly soacked up by those around him.
We will be very pleased to have Gil join us in the Drive Family. Gil has worked several Drive Camps before both as a Head Coach and as a guess Speaker, he will bring with him a passion and knowledge of the game that is rarely seen.
