DRIVE Basketball Presents:

SHOOT FOR THOSE IN NEED CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME

About the Event:

This Holiday season DRIVE Basketball is happy to present the 3rd annual "Shoot For Those In Need" Charity Basketball Game. Our goal is to raise money and lend support to the Lookout Emergency Aid Society as well as the Peace Arch Food Bank, which provides help to those most vulnerable during the holiday season.  In addition to partnering with these charities another one of our goals is to raise money for Molly.

Molly Imrie is a gifted Grade 9 basketball player from Grand Forks and a valued member of our basketball community. Molly was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently receiving treatment. The Imrie Family now have had to relocate to the Lower Mainland so she can get treatment at Children's Hospital.  As you are aware the financial burden to fight cancer is very challenging and Molly and her family are in need of financial assistance.

This year the "Shoot For Those In Need" Charity Game will donate a its proceeds from the event to support Molly and her family in their battle against this dreaded disease.

It brings us great joy to be able to use something as simple as basketball to effect change in the lives of others.  We urge you to join us for a day of HOOPS, HELP, and HOPE! See you on the court!

About the Shooting Clinic:

This year in addition to the Charity Basketball game DRIVE will be running a Shooting Clinic for players in grades 5-12 from 5:30-7:00pm, prior to tip off of the Feature game.  The Shooting Clinic will be 90 minutes in duration and the cost is $20.00.  All proceeds from this clinic will be donated to the local charities invloved with this event.

The DRIVE Shooting Clinic will be run by Head Coaches Pasha Bains and Chad Clifford.

Concepts Covered:

Shooting off the proper Fingers & proper rotation

Sighting the Basket

Body Mechanics & Using your Legs

They will be playing against CIS/BCAA All-Stars which will feature Gonzaga bound recruit Bol Kong, former BCAA All-Canadians Andrew Sturgeon and Graeme McCallum as well as current CIS standouts Gurjote Jhaj and Sean Anthony.

This years event will have honorary guest coaches/players Howard Kelsey, Lars Hansen and Ron Putzi, all former BC AAA MVPs and legends in the Canadian Basketball Community.

Tip off is set for 7:30pm!

How to Help:

We are proud to be working with these charities as we know they provide everything they can to make this time special for those who are in need.  We thank them and the loving staff that work tirelessly to help those less fortunate.  We hope you can join us at our annual event to make someone wish come true this holiday season.

Background about the Event

Formed the winter of 2006, “Shoot For Those In Need” is an organization dedicated to assisting the homeless and underprivileged during the holiday season. Through your donations, our organization aims to help the needy by providing warm clothing during the cold months, bring non-perishable food items so many will be able to enjoy a nice warm meal and to donate money to assure that these helpful charities we donate to can grow and provide all they need to.

In our first year running this event, we managed to raise nearly $2,500, about 250 pieces of clothing and over 50 cans of food in only a month a preparation.  Last year, we received around $2,500 as well and received 300 pieces of clothing and 100 cans of food.

We have higher hopes this year and would like to ask for your help in order to impact as many lives as we possible can.
