(Pictured: 3 of B.C.'s Top Sophomores, Denny Dumas, Rob Sacre and Eliot Rushton. The list of top sophomores is in no particular order.)
Rob Sacre: 7’0’’ Centre (Handsworth)
Rob had an outstanding summer playing for the Under 15 provincial team. He completely dominated the National Championship averaging 30 and 20 and taking home the MVP. His size and athleticism has him poised for greatness. He may be the most recruited player in BC high school history if he decides to stay in Canada until his senior year. He already has every High Major program in America knocking at his door and it won’t be long when we see this kid’s big friendly smile on TV, walking across the stage to shake David Stern’s hand.
Denny Dumas: 6’2’’ Guard (St. Thomas More)
Denny Dumas is an extremely athletic guard capable of filling the basket at any moment. He can penetrate on almost any defender and is really good at absorbing the contact while still finishing the play. He knocks down the outside shot on a regular basis. His work ethic and determination separate him from most other players in BC.
Eliot Rushton: 6’3’’ Guard (Oak Bay)
Eliot is just recently coming off an excellent showing at the Full Court Press All Frosh/Soph camp where he was selected to the prestigious top 20 all-star game. When he is left open on the perimeter it’s like a lay-up for this kid. He is arguably the purest shooter in BC regardless of age. Eliot also has good handles on the basketball allowing him to create his own shot off of the dribble. He has the passion and desire to become great.
Dylan Gatner: 6’1’’ (Pitt Meadows)
Dylan is best described as a player with a great feel for the game. He is a true point guard who looks to really get his teammates involved. Dylan is a student of the game, a smart player who demonstrates a high basketball IQ for his age level. Has the right mind set to become great player.
* Team Ranked Pre-Season #10 *
Spencer Fyfe-Wilson: 6’5’’ Forward (Shuswap)
Spencer is an absolute beast on the court. He has been blessed with tremendous athletic ability allowing him to grab rebounds WAY above the rim. He is a relentless offensive rebounder, who is quick off his feet getting second and third attempts on the ball. He has a quick first step and simply elevates over his defender once he is in the lane.
Jordan Mara: 6’3’’ Guard (White Rock Christian)
Jordan is an athletic wing with a very good sense for where the basketball is on the court. He is great at and anticipating the play then jumping out in the passing lanes for steals. He is rhythm shooter that can score in a variety of ways. Jordan displays a love and passion for the game and the will to get better.
Karol Cybula: 6’7’’ Forward (St. Thomas More)
He has the ability to consistently make the 15-17 ft. jumper from the perimeter. Karol is very good at running the floor and being able to finish plays for a big man. He has nice touch on the basketball and good back to the basket moves that he uses to score in the low post. Karol is also good at blocking or altering shots defensively.
Charlie Campbell: 6’0’’ Guard (Vancouver College)
As a combo guard, Campbell is one of the best pure shooters in the province; a deadly spot up shooter from behind the arc, he is almost automatic with the midrange pull up in the half-court or transition. Campbell mixes a high level of skill with outstanding athleticism and quickness to make himself one of the toughest match-ups at his level.
Nathan Yu: 6’0’’ Guard (Duchess Park)
Brother of UBC point guard Jordan Yu, Nathan brings an explosive scoring punch to the floor. He is able to penetrate by his defenders as well he is very capable of knocking down the outside shot. He is a dynamic scorer who is willing to take “Big” shots. Nathan is an intelligent player who has been well schooled in the game of basketball.
Greg Gillies: 6’5’’ Forward (Dover Bay)
Greg is an absolute force downlow. He uses his size to out-power his opponents, but also has a high basketball IQ, using pump fakes very effectively. He is also a born leader, encouraging his teammates on and off the floor, and demands everyone leaves it on the floor. If he continues to grow and develop, Greg will be one of the premier big men in the province.
