“In my opinion he’s a top 5 point guard in the BC. He has the best handles in the province and when he’s on he’s unstoppable.  With his ability to pull 3s from pretty much anywhere, his tight handles, and his ability to finish around the basket make him a lethal weapon on the court. Growing up I learned a lot from him because of his work ethic and it helped me work harder and improve my game like he does day in day out.”

“I want to leave a legacy behind, as the best point guard in my school's history.  Also, I would like to make the high school all star game because I believe it would be a fun experience. However my team goals are a little different. There's nothing like winning a provincial championship, and I've won 2. We all believe we can win another championship this year.  It won’t be easy though because the competition in AA is as good as it’s been in years.”

- Charlie Spurr, Sr. Lambrick Park

(Pictured: Charlie Spurr is a premier guard in BC and has been an intricate part of Lambrick Park's success these past 2 seasons.  He currently leads the #2 ranked AA school in their bid for a 4th straight title.  Here he hones his skills in the parks of Victoria.)

"LIVIN LEGEND" - CHARLIE SPURR: SENIOR GUARD LAMBRICK PARK

Charlie Spurr has been playing basketball all his life, whether it is at parks, rec-centers or gyms around the city. His one-on-one battles against his best friends Jeff Cullen, Jordan Brown, and C.G. Morrison have molded him into the player he is today. The 6’1’’ point guard for Lambrick Park (#2 ranked AA team) possess a killer crossover and deadly jumper from anywhere on the court. The talented floor leader has helped guide the Lambrick Park squad to 2 provincial championships since he’s been at that school. In guiding his team to a provincial title last season he was named to the tournaments 1 st all-star team. Charlie has the burning desire to win a third chip and that’s what motivates him to always push himself to be the best. Mike Hull, another Victoria product ( Mt. Douglas) and a U-17 provincial team member has taken notice of Charlie’s game.

The Victoria native has learned to play the game from guys that have come before him. “I've had lots of positive role models in basketball.  Chris Marsh is a friend of mine and he is one of the coldest players I've ever seen play. He's a local Victoria product that played college ball, and for years he's been helping me come along way and progress as a player” says Spurr, one of the top point guards in BC. Charlie is a student of the game studying different player’s arsenal of moves and trying to incorporate them into his own game. Charlie is a true competitor and has set several goals for himself this season.

Charlie’s season has gone good so far defeating several top ranked AAA teams. However, playing ball on the island can sometimes have its downfalls. “Well, being AA, you’re not on anybody's radar. I believe we have the best backcourt in BC with C.G Morrsion and myself. At times you get the feeling that nobody's heard of you. But when bigger schools come to play us, they learn quickly that we can hang with them” says the dynamic scoring guard from the Island. “We've won some tournaments and the team's gotten lots of recognition, and so have I.  We've beaten some highly ranked AAA teams, and came real close to knocking off some juggernauts like Rick Hanson, and Wellington.”

They have their work cut out for them looking to 4 peat with Cedar holding down the #1 spot all season. “Cedar is going to be extremely hard to beat. Willy (Willie Galick, U-17 member and a recent Pepperdine Committee) is downright sick he’s a monster on the floor. They also have Harlan Punnett who is a capable scorer along with Siggy Skagfeld.” Charlie’s future goals are to play ball at the next level but he’s not to concerned about that right now. He’s focused on bring home another banner and ending his high school career on top.

Drive would like to wish Charlie and his Lambrick Park teammates the best of luck through out the rest of their season.
