DRIVE TOP 25: PG | SG | SF | PF | C
CENTER: The top Centers do more then just carve out space in the lane. They are active on the glass, alter or block shots, run the floor, and have a go to move in the post. They are also capable of making shots when left open. The best centers have the ability to change the flow of the game on the defensive end because the paint is their domain.
| 1. | Willie Galick: 6’7’’ Senior – Cedar (Pepperdine) |
![]() |
Willie is more of a Forward then a Center but he is more than capable of playing both positions. He is easily the most athletic player in BC this year playing the game WAY above the rim. He already has a college body and will be a welcomed addition to the Pepperdine campus next season. Willie helped guide his Cedar team to an AA Provincial Championship in 2005 and has been named the tournaments MVP the past 2 seasons. He’s a gifted athlete with good post up skills and the ability to finish around the rim with both hands. Can knock it in when left open and is virtually unstoppable when he is 1 dribble away from the rim. A physical specimen on the court Willie Galick is man amongst boys doing whatever he pleases when he plays. |
| 2. | Rob Sacre: 6’11’’ Sophomore – Handsworth (Underclassmen) |
![]() |
Rob Sacre is a true center that has developed tremendously through out the season. He helped guide the Handsworth Royals to a 3rd place finish at the provincials and despite only being 15 years of age he has generated serious interest from every high profile program across the border. If he decides to stay put in BC for the next 2 seasons he will no doubt be the most sought after player in recent history. Rob is an intimidating presence on the court either blocking or altering his opponent’s shots. He has good hands for his size and finishes most dump-offs with a ferocious dunk. Rob already has a chiseled body for his age and will no doubt be the talk of the BC hoop scene next season. |
| 3. | Hermon Tesfaghebriel: 6’8’’ Senior – New West (Undecided) |
![]() |
Hermon has a great feel for the game. He was named as a 2nd team all-star at this year’s AAA Provincial Championship. Hermon can beat you in a variety of ways on the basketball court. He is long athletic player which makes him a good shot blocker and rebounder on both ends of the court. His game resembles that of Kevin Garnett. He’s skinny but what he lacks in size he makes up for with skill. Hermon can stroke it from downtown and is quite capable of mixing it up from the interior. He runs the floor extremely well for a big man. Hermon has the potential to be an elite player at the next level wherever he decides to play. |
| 4. | Elliot Smith: 6’7’’ Senior – McMath (Langara College) |
![]() |
Elliot Smith is an absolute monster on the glass grabbing 16 rebounds a night. He helped guide his McMath squad to a 4th place finish and for his efforts was named as a 2nd team all-star. Elliot is a dominating presence on the inside finishing plays with ease and carving out space in the process. His leadership abilities were missed when he went down with an injury mid way through the season but came back strong to finish his senior season. |
| 5. | Scott Van Boeyen: 6’8’’ Senior – Kitsilano (Langara College) |
Scott was hampered with injuries through out the season. He finally became healthy towards the second half of the year being named to the 1st all-star team at the Lower Mainland Championship while leading his squad to a 2nd place finish. He had a good showing at the Provincials being named to the 3rd all-star team. A real banger on the inside Scott demonstrated toughness around the rim sacrificing his body for the betterment of the team. He has good finish with his right hand and an ever improving jumper from the outside. |
