DRIVE TOP 25: PG | SG | SF | PF | C

DRIVE has come up with a list of the top 5 players from each position by conducting a poll from numerous Coaches, Sports writers, and Players across BC. In the list DRIVE describes each position, their role, and how important they are to the team. The rankings are based on the person with the most popular vote at that particular position. Over 50 Players and Coaches submitted their votes. The player with the most votes is DRIVE’s “Mr. Basketball” in BC for the 2004/05 season. Congratulations to all the players listed below for their outstanding performances this season.

POINT GUARD: A Point Guard is an extension of the coach on the court. They are the team’s primary ball-handler and demonstrate good floor vision. They handle the pressure while making the decisions on the court. They make players around them better and when the game is on the line you want the ball in their hand.

1. Tyler Kepkay: 6’0’’ Senior – Handsworth (Eastern Utah CC)
Tyler is a fierce competitor on the basketball court. When the game is on the line you want the ball in his hands. Tyler earned a 1st team all-star selection at the Provincials while leading his team to a 3rd pace finish. He has countless breakdown moves and has the ability to get his shot off whenever he wants. Has range on his shot that borders unreal. When he is the full court he is virtually unstoppable. A quite leader on the court he wills his team to win. Tyler is a student of the game, constantly finding ways to improve.
2.
Sean Burke: 6’4’’ Senior – Argyle (SFU)
The head smart point guard from Argyle is the ultimate team player who thinks pass first shoot second. He is a true leader on the court always making the players around him better. Sean is a selfless player willing to do the little things that makes a team great. He is an all-around great player that other good players want to play with.
3. Jeron Dillon: 6’2’ Senior – WRCA (Langara College)
Jeron has had a great senior season capped off by winning the AAA Championship and being named as a 2nd team all-star. He has flown under the radar all-season but shined the brightest when it counted the most. He shoots with terrific accuracy from downtown and is a big game performer. Jeron possess a nice little pull-up jumper off the dribble when driving to his left. He plays the game at a relaxed pace, never seems to be in a hurry. The silky smooth lefty was the quiet catalyst on the WRCA squad.
4. Jeff Cullen: 6’2’’ Senior – Oak Bay (University of Victoria)
The Luke Ridnour prototype from Oak Bay had a great showing at the Provincials. Jeff is a shifty PG who possesses great court vision on the floor. He can break down defenders with a variety of moves and has the ability to take it to the basket and finish with either hand. He is a rhythm shooter who will knock it in when left open. Jeff has the desire to be great and the work ethic to go along with it.
5. Alex Murphy: 6’2’’ Junior – St. Georges (Underclassmen)

Alex is an outstanding playmaker and a gifted ball-handler. He is a pin-point passer who limits turnovers considering the amount of chances he takes. Alex has a sturdy frame on him, ideal for fighting through traffic and finishing plays. He creates looks from mid-range, using runners to finish. He is a solid spot-up shooter from long- range. Alex is an excellent defender because his quick hands and ability to anticipate helps him to collect steals on a regular basis. He will be one of the top player’s in next years graduating class.
