MR. BASKETBALL: Tyrell Mara: 6’6’’ Senior – WRCA (Portland State)
Tyrell is an extremely well-rounded wing. He can do just about anything on a basketball floor. He is a ferocious rebounder that grabs the ball at its apex and isn’t shy to protect it with his elbows. He is always around the ball and has all the physical tools, instincts, and intensity to be a shut-down defender being named the “Top Defensive Player” at the Provincials for the past 2 years. Tyrell puts up monster numbers, even when facing constant double/triple teams. He is the unquestioned leader on the floor guiding his team to 2 AAA championships in 3 years. He is a tremendous shot-blocker with great timing on his swats. Tyrell plays with immeasurable intensity and passion, doing whatever it takes to win. He has extended range on his always-improving jumper and possesses better post-up game than other wing players. Tyrell has a great build for his position. His size alone will help him excel at the next level. Tyrell was named as a first team all-star at the Provincials for the past 3 years (a feat only accomplished by 5 players in tournament history) and was named this year’s Most Valuable Player. Tyrell Mara will finish his high school career as having one of the most decorated career’s in BC history.
WING FORWARD: The small forward is the most versatile player on the court. They have the ability to slash to the hoop and finish against bigger players. They have the ability to make open shots. The top wings are also great at rebounding. These guys do it all on the basketball court.
| 1. | Tyrell Mara: 6’6’’ Senior – WRCA (Portland State) |
![]() |
Tyrell is a man amongst boys when he plays. He was named the 2005 AAA MVP guiding his Warriors to 2 AAA Championships in 3 years. He is smooth going to his left and is one of the best slashers in the province. He consistently gets to the rim and is an outstanding finisher. Tyrell understands how to play within a system and rarely forces the action. He is an excellent passer, capable of playing back-up point guard at the high school level. He is adept at crashing both the offensive and defensive boards, especially to initiate the transition game. Tyrell can defend several different positions on the floor. Simply put, Tyrell is a winner. |
| 2. | Harvey Bradford: 6’5’’ Senior – Mt. Baker (University of Alberta) |
![]() |
Harvey Bradford is an extremely versatile wing. He has incredibly soft touch around the hoop and has no problem finishing with either hand. Not a prolific 3-point shooter, but can make them when left open. He has tremendous speed and length making him hard to guard on the perimeter. Harvey loves to mix it up on the inside. His long arms and size help him to block a lot of shots against opponents. He helped guide the Mt. Baker squad to 2 straight appearances at the Provincials and will suite up for the Alberta Golden Bears next season. |
| 3. | Calvin Westbrook: 6’4’’ Junior – GP Vanier (Underclassmen) |
![]() |
Calvin is an overall floor general. He has a strong thick physique and he bulls his way to the hoop overpowering smaller and weaker defenders. He is a good rebounder from the guard position with both size and strength. He has good vision and sees the whole court, always finding his open teammate. Calvin plays the game very poised and under control. He is confident with the ball in his hands and wants the ball in crunch time. He can create for himself and for his team off the dribble. Calvin is definitely one to watch out for next season as he makes his case for the 2006 Mr. Basketball in BC. |
| 4. | Kyle Watson: 6’6’’ Senior – McMath (Langara College) |
![]() |
Kyle Watson had a stellar senior campaign being named the MVP at the Lower Mainland Championship and leading his team to a 4th place finish at the Provincials. For his efforts he was named to the tournaments 1st all-star team. Kyle is a lanky player who has a deadly stroke from the outside. He can fill it up in a hurry and when he gets going from the outside that opens up the middle for him to maneuver his way to the hoop. Kyle possesses great court awareness constantly finding his teammates with a variety of creative passes. |
| 5. | Brian Brooks: 6’3’’ Senior – Wellington (SFU) |
![]() |
Brian helped lead the Wildcats to a Cinderella run at this year Provincial Championships guiding his team to a 2nd place finish. For his outstanding efforts he was named to the tournaments 1st all-star team. Brian plays far bigger than he actually is averaging over 10 boards per game at the BC’s. He is an excellent scorer on the interior and good at drawing contact and still finishing. He has sound ball-handling skills which provide mobility on the perimeter. A good shooter and a better passer than he gets credit for Brian can easily play minutes at point guard, shooting guard, and small forward while on the floor. |
