(Pictured: Left to Right, Sophomore sensations Ty Nurse, Marc Trasolini, and Gurjote Jhaj helped guide BC to a 2nd place finish at the Nationals.  The list of Top Sophmore's is in no particular order.)

TOP UNDERCLASSMEN: SOPHOMORE'S

Ty Nurse:

6’0’’ Point Guard (Kitsilano)

Ty is considered by many the top point guard in the province regardless of age.  He’s a top-notch perimeter marksman who will only get better with experience.  He’s quickly developing into one of the premier talents in BC.  He possesses good court vision and playmaking skills but what separates Ty from other players his age is his confidence in himself.  He has a great feel for the game and will only get better with time.

Gurjote Jhaj:

6’2’’ Point Guard (Richmond)

Gurj is a lightning quick left handed point guard with the ability to penetrate seemingly at will.  He has incredible body control and takes the ball to the basket and finishes exceptionally well for a PG.   He has a playmakers mentality, but also scores well especially on the dribble drive.   Owns great ball handling skills which become lethal combined with his quickness.   Gurj will be looked upon to do a little of everything for Richmond to have a chance of having successful season this year.

Marc Trasolini:

6’5’’ Forward (Vancouver College)

Marc is as versatile as they come.  He is a true inside outside threat and is equally adequate with his back to the basket or when facing up to the hoop.   Marc has a solid mid range game with a reliable jumper that extends as far out as the three point line.  Unlike most players Marc’s size he can put the ball on the floor and get to the hoop with an array of different moves.  He’s a good rebounder that uses his length to block and alter shots on the defensive end.

Akeem Pierre:

6’0’’ Wing Forward (RC Palmer)

Akeem is run and jump athlete who finishes well above the rim.  He’s a high flyer who is as explosive as they come.    He’s excellent at slashing to the hoop.  He’s a great offensive rebounder because of his ability to get off the ground quickly for 2nd and 3rd attempts.  He’s very strong and stays active throughout the game.  Akeem is very tough to defend because he is all over the court.  Has great potential.

Sean Ashkenazy:

6’5’’ Forward (Handsworth)

Sean is an athletic and agile forward who plays hard on both ends of the floor. He runs the floor well and has an assortment of nimble post moves. He also posses a nice mid range jump shot from the foul line. The release point on his shot is very high allowing him to avoid defenders with ease. Very efficient on the baseline (nice up and under moves) and explosive off the ground. He is an incredible rebounder and shot blocker. Sean is an extremely promising prospect that leads a talented sophomore class from Handsworth.

Sam Freeman:

6’3’’ Wing Guard (Charles Best)

Sam is a silky smooth swingman with a beautiful looking jumper.  He’s extremely athletic and deceptively quick.  He possesses the skills to play multiple positions on the court.  He has long arms and is always in the passing lanes.  Has the physical abilities and overall knowledge of the game to be an exceptional player at the next level.

Demitri Harris:

6’3’’ Wing Guard (Britannia)

Demitri has great size and quickness at the guard position. He’s very athletic and uses his length to create mismatches for himself on the court.  He’s a smart player with a good understanding of the game.  He has nice offensive skills with the ability to drive or pull up for a mid-range jumper.   He’s a good defender with quick hands and nice anticipation in the passing lanes.

Spencer Mclean: 6’5’’ Wing Forward (White Rock Christian)
Spencer has a very bright future, with the White Rock Christian Warriors.  He is constantly working hard on his game and plays mature beyond his years.   He is very tall for his position and is a lights out shooter when left open.   On offense he can do a little of everything, and does a good job of taking what the defense gives him.   Spencer is constantly developing his overall athleticism and will look to help a re-building WRC squad this year after coming off a AAA Championship in 2004/05.
Spencer Dore:

6’2’’ Wing Forward (Seaquam)

Spencer is a hard nosed player for the Seaquam Seahawks.  He possesses the intangibles that coaches love to work with.   He has a good first step and fluid body control when penetrating to the hoop.  He’s a good defender on the perimeter with his long arms and quickness usually guarding the other team’s top player.  Spencer is a true competitor that plays the game with burning passion.

Nick Dekoster:

5’10’’ Point Guard (White Rock Christian)

Nick is coming of an injury plagued summer where he was sidelined with a fractured hip.  He has rehabbed hard and is now the starting point guard for the defending AAA Champion Warriors.  The jittery quick lefty is a silky smooth shooter and automatic when left open.  His decision making in the half court is constantly improving and he should develop into a strong lead guard by the end of the season.  Nick looks to pick up where past Warrior point guards have left off, with another trip to the Agrodome.
